Chiropractic health month
Chiropractic care is on the forefront as a first line of defense against pain. October marks National Chiropractic Health Month, and that is the theme for 2018. The goal is to raise public awareness of the vital role played by chiropractic clinics as a first line of defense against pain. We are also promoting a healthy lifestyle, that is enhanced by chiropractic services as a means of a natural, holistic, patient-centered approach to wellness.
Chiropractic care focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. Chiropractic doctors are relied upon to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints such as:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Pain in the joints of the arms or legs
- Pain related to accidents or injury
Chiropractors care is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to healthcare. This year’s Health Month campaign seeks to encourage the use of chiropractic care and other conservative forms of pain management before turning to more aggressive treatments; such as prescription pain medications or surgery.
The role of chiropractic care
Chiropractors always begins with a detailed assessment of each patient through clinical examination, laboratory testing, x-rays, and other diagnostic interventions. A comprehensive health history is gathered to determine what treatments are appropriate. When it is in the best interest of their patient, chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate healthcare provider, when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition. In some cases, the condition may warrant co-management in conjunction with other healthcare providers.
Your first visit
When visiting a chiropractor for the first time be specific about your symptoms. This will help your chiropractic doctor to determine the safest and most effective treatment for you. In cases that involve back pain, neck pain, or pain in the joints of the arms or legs, chiropractic care should be a patient’s primary method of treatment. Chiropractic treatment has an excellent safety record. However, no health treatment is completely free of adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic treatments are very small. In fact, many patients feel immediate relief when they begin chiropractic treatment. Others may experience mild soreness and stiffness, just as they would after a workout or some form of exercise. Chiropractic care is not just for adults. It is also tremendously beneficial for children. Children experience falls and bumps daily. Children are very resilient, and may never complain about back or neck pain, soreness, or discomfort. Chiropractic care is very gentle, and most children respond remarkably well to treatment. Chiropractic is safe and recommended for the whole family; from infants to seniors. If you or a family member is suffering from joint or muscular pain, visit a chiropractor before turning to more aggressive interventions.
