Low Back PainAre you expecting?

Low back pain is common for expectant mothers. With the child continuously growing, the body begins to change in order to accommodate that growth. In nearly every case. low back pain occurs. A doctor of chiropractic can offer tips and treatment to help you to eliminate or manage low back pain during pregnancy. Low back pain is most commonly experienced during late pregnancy. It is often secondary to the baby’s head pressing against soft tissues, causing irritation of a woman’s sciatic nerve. Quite naturally, if a woman has a history of low back pain before her pregnancy, the problem can become even worse during pregnancy.

The advancement of pregnancy causes a woman’s center of gravity to shift forward to the front of her pelvis. The body produces hormones that help to loosen the ligaments attached to the pelvic bones, allowing the mother’s body to accommodate the growing baby and constantly changing postural imbalance. We want to offer the following natural and pain-free recommendations that will help pregnant women to reduce their chance of developing low back pain:

  1. Therapeutic exercise

Your chiropractor can show you moderate to light exercises that will strengthen the extremities to minimize the likelihood of falls. When you are pregnant, any level of exercise activity should last no more than 15 minutes at a time. However, if you exercise and experience vaginal bleeding, dizziness, blurred vision, or heart palpitations, immediately discontinue your exercise routine and call your physician.

  1. Ergonomics and proper support

During pregnancy, it is crucial that you wear only low-heeled shoes, that are sturdy enough to provide stable support. Lie down and elevate your feet at a higher level than your heart whenever you feel tired or need a break. Learn to sleep on your left side with a pillow between your knees. Lying on your left side is important because it facilitates unobstructed blood flow.

  1. Eat a proper diet

Keep nausea at bay by eating several small meals rather than three large ones. If you want to snack, choose mild or bland foods that are high in protein. For many women, saltines and sparkling water are effective for helping to stave off morning sickness.
