Charlotte chiropractors back neck pain and chiropractic care

The therapeutic connection between neck pain and chiropractic is well known to many gratified patients in Charlotte NC. Most people do not realize how often they move their neck until it hurts to move it. Picture your head and neck as a bowling ball balanced on the tip of a stick, held in place by thin rubber bands. It is easy to see how delicate and susceptible to injury your neck is; once the fragile balance has been disrupted, the normal range of motion can be significantly affected. The neck is designed to move up, down, left, right, forward, backwards, and unless it is injured, performs each movement, often more than one at a time, effortlessly and comfortably. Have you been injured? A chiropractor in Charlotte can help you!

Central nervous system

The nervous system, consisting of the brain, spinal cord and a complex network of nerve cells, works to send, receive and interpret information from all parts of the body. Your nervous system monitors and coordinates internal organ functions, and responds to changes in its environment. Your spinal cord is a bundled cylinder of nerve fibers running down a protective channel within the center of your spinal column. Spinal cord nerves are grouped into bundles of nerve fibers that travel in two pathways. Ascending nerve tracts carry sensory information from your body to you brain; descending nerve tracts send information about motor function from the brain to the rest of your body.

Have you been injured?

If you have sustained an injury to your spine from a fall, hit, collision, or as often happens, from a BLT (bending lifting twisting) motion, both your sensory nerves and motor nerves are immediately affected. Sensory nerves let you know when an injury is causing irritation against spinal nerves or other tissue by giving you a good dose of pain. Pain, in turn, restricts normal and full function of your spine and causes swelling, the combination of which puts excess stress on other parts of your body in an instinctive attempt to normalize movement. Motor nerves try to make the best of a bad situation, but typically fail to maintain proper function, too, because an impaired central nervous system sends and receives faulty messages. Have you been injured? Chances are that your central nervous system is suffering from a failure to communicate!

Have you been in an accident?

Have you been in an accident at work or in your car?  Most neck and upper back pain is caused by a combination of factors, including poor posture, unsafe motions such as an improper lifting technique,  stress, spinal misalignments, disc problems, and of course, an injury. By far, the most common injury to the neck is a whiplash injury, caused by a sudden movement of the head, either back, forward, or sideways. This whipping action results in damage to the supporting muscles, ligaments and other connective tissues in your neck and upper back. Whether from a car accident, sports, or an accident at work, whiplash injuries need to be taken very seriously. Have you been in an accident but feel okay?

Neck pain and chiropractic care for whiplash

Have you been in an accident in your car, or while playing sports? Symptoms of whiplash injury can take weeks or months to manifest, making it easy to convince yourself you have not been injured. All too often, people postpone treatment following a car accident or sports injury because they are not feeling very much pain. Unfortunately, by the time more serious complications develop, some damage from the injury may have become permanent. Numerous studies show that years after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, roughly half report they are still suffering with symptoms from their injuries. If you have been in a motor vehicle or any other kind of accident, do not assume that you escaped injury just because you are not currently in pain.
